The Way of the Mystic

Beyond happy to present my brand new series called The Way of the Mystic.

A series on a Spiritual Path. Of Sages, Hermits, Mystics. But most of all, of our own.

And this is the first piece:

Descend into your Being

This shot was made descending after climbing Mt. Hallasan. Located on Jeju Island it is one of Korea’s 3 Spirit mountains and South-Korea’s highest peak. Being trained by Wim Hof, we climbed the mountain in t-shirt. That wasn’t so much of a feat. But I gotta admit, I am not the best with heights. Still I always try to conquer that by going up anyway cause I love the view and feel of mountains. Just trying to avoid edges (as far as possible) and looking down too much. Strange relationship, mixed feelings; name that label.

Peaks

Reaching the summit then truly feels like victory. Always have to kind of land after arriving at the peak, before I can maneuver around more freely. Depending what the local landscape looks like of course. But after settling I can take it all in.

The real challenge very often starts when going back down. The peak drive, motivation and adrenaline are gone and you are basically fighting time (=daylight) and at some point fatigue. Especially when raining, you’re also walking on very slippery rocks. And let’s not forget, in stead of looking up at your goal, you are looking down into an abyss. Heading home once more. Kinda like life and it’s cycles right?

The Metaphor

Not saying that I am always successful at it, but the goal for me is to enjoy the ups, the downs. To not be numb but still keep more of an even mind & spirit. Be in the moment. Balance the trip and enjoy the whole journey. Not just part.

Like us all, I have experienced cycles in all aspects of life and we know they are inevitable. In our human form we are dealing with impermanence; of life and moments. All but Spirit, is fleeting.
